Girls Night(s)

So, Ed is out of town. It's really rare that he travels for work but it does happen once in a blue moon. And we actually enjoy it...outside of my being a little creeped out at bedtime when I suddenly realize I'm the adult in charge of this joint!

He's at Tech recruiting for GE. I think it's neat he gets to go back to his old campus twice a year for their job fairs. So, Reese and I had steak and baked potatoes for supper on TV trays watching Drake and Josh. That is SO against the rules normally at family supper time. But I think she deals with Ed being gone better if we do fun rule-breaking stuff. We then went to church and came back for her planned "slumber party" but she crashed five minutes after climbing into my bed. We both love the broken rule of letting her sleep in the "big bed" when Ed's away. She sleeps uninterrupted when she's in our bed all night which means, more importantly, that *I* sleep uninterrupted. If Ed could sleep with her in our bed, I'd let her stay there til she leaves for college. But, for now, I'm stuck with trekking back and forth between rooms all night. YAWN.

I'm super-duper tired and we are leaving for the beach Saturday. There's so much to do between now and then. But, for now, I need sleep! Sleep now, work later.

Clearly, I suck at blogging.

Seriously, I would blog more but my life is SOOO stinking boring. I get up, get ready, take Reese to school, go to the gym, run home to clean and check email, pick Reese up, play and clean, make supper, read books to Reese (my all-time favorite thing ever), read my Bible, go to bed. Repeat day after day after day after day. I'm not complaining, though. Typical days are WAY better than bad days! Life is not boring to me but it's definitely not a thrilling spectator sport. There are only 2 slightly exciting things going on in my neck of the woods. First, Reese is learning so much at school but only parents would care so much to hear and see every last detail. If I can I will post video of some of the funny stuff she's sharing with us in the evenings. I take lots of pictures and video to keep the grandparents up to date since they are 3+ hours away. Second, well this is more than slightly exciting...we are leaving for the beach in NINE days!!! Count em, NINE! Usually just Reese and I get to go with my parents and niece and nephew. But this year Ed has planned to have that week off and is going with us. He loves the fall trip to Kiawah because the shrimp are running and the fishing is good. He hopes Reese will actually care about fishing and crabbing this year. We'll just see about that...If it's up to me, she'll be a non-fishing, non-hunting girly-girly like her mama. :)

Is it Friday yet?

Why, yes it is.

We have a somewhat busy weekend coming up. Or it only seems busy to us because we generally have no life.

First, I fell for Eddie's trick he uses to get me to mow the yard. He basically moans and groans about having to mow for days until I finally just do it myself to shut him up. Then I don't realize what has happened until it's too late. D'oh!

On the bright side, I got a bit more exercise than planned and didn't kill myself on the hill in the backyard. AND I got out of bath duty with Reese.

Anyway, tonight our small group from church is having a progressive dinner. I had agreed long, long ago to doing appetizers at my house. It's easy to agree to stuff when it's WAY off in the future, huh? But, here it is tonight and I should be cleaning house instead of blogging. Priorities, people. And Reese is napping which is another reason I should be cleaning. I have 4 hours until everyone gets here. Surely I can do 8 hours worth of work AND get the food ready by then. I have faith in myself.

Since I mowed the yard, Ed has promised me some "mama" time tomorrow. Which means I basically get to do one of my favorite things on earth. Be alone. Go somewhere alone. You never really appreciate a quiet shopping trip until you've dragged a kid along with you everywhere you go for a few years. I told him I'd just take two hours at the gym while he stayed home with her. But he also offered to take her somewhere for the afternoon, too. I'll take him up on that, I think, but he doesn't know yet that I took a shopping trip to Kohl's this morning as payment for yard maintenance. All deals may be off at that point.

Saturday should be a quiet day otherwise. We have a stack of movies we'd like to watch so maybe we can get Reese to bed early and watch at least one of them.

On Sunday I start teaching Reese's class during the second worship service. I've committed to a full year of teaching that class so I guess I'll be missing Sunday morning worship for the next year. Wahoo! I know I am not called to teach children, it's a true effort for me. I left choir to do this, though, since there was a serious need in the preschool department. The choir can go on for now without me. The preschool? I'm not so sure.

Anyway, Sunday afternoon Ed's cousin Daniel and his wife Sarah are coming by for a visit on their way home from Fripp Island. One of the great things about living in Greenville is that we're on the way to the beach for basically everyone we know! I imagine we'll cook supper for them. I wonder if I can keep today's clean house maintained through the weekend. Yeahhhhh, riiiiight.

Wow, what a completely, utterly boring blog today!

First Day of 4-K!

Reese started 4-K today. When I first woke her up she was, as usual, not so enthusiastic. She never likes being woken up. I had to force her to the bathroom to potty and brush. As she was sitting on the potty she scowls and says, "This is NOT what I had planned." When I asked her what she did have planned, she said, "Nuffin!"

Minutes later she was jumping on the bed, eating a granola bar, and excited about her day.

Tomorrow I'll start dropping her off at the drive-thru part of the preschool but today I wanted to walk her in. She was excited about her rolling backpack and taking pictures of her pets (Mavis and Chickenhead) to Ms Sally since her class theme is Pet Shop. Reese said they even got "scooby snacks" today if they were good. And her report today is that all the kids were good. Reese is always sure to let me know if anyone wasn't good. After I asked her about her first day at school she asked, "And how did it go for you, Mom?"

How did it go for me? Great. I went to the gym and did an hour of combat, my favorite class. I'd planned on staying for core but wimped out after Cindy killed us in the abs section. Tomorrow I'm going to try and beat the clock after drop off and make it to the pump class. I'm down about 5 lbs in the past 5.5 weeks but had a total of 7.75 inches lost at my one month check. Go me!
